Most Romantic Hotels in Hawaii for a Special Date Night

Hawaii's resort hotels range from genuine world-class to overpriced mediocre. Here are the ones that are actually worth the occasion — with honest context about what you're paying for.

Oʻahu

Turtle Bay Resort — North Shore

The only resort on the North Shore, which makes it genuinely different from any Waikiki option — you're 45 minutes from the city, surrounded by working surf spots and agricultural land, and the resort's beachfront feels genuinely wild compared to the urban beaches of Honolulu. The rooms are good, the two miles of relatively private beach is the real draw, and the remote location makes it feel like a different island.

Halepuna Waikiki by Halekulani

If you need to be in Waikiki, the Halepuna (sister property to the legendary Halekulani) offers the Halekulani standard of service at a more accessible price point. The pool setup and the quieter side-street location make it the best of the Waikiki hotel options for a date that doesn't want to feel like a tourist destination.

Maui

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

Consistently ranked among the best hotels in the world, and in Hawaii the ranking is deserved. The beach at Wailea is genuinely excellent, the service standard is what Four Seasons is known for globally, and the Ferraro's restaurant is one of the best beachfront dining experiences in Hawaii. An expensive occasion hotel that actually justifies the expense.

Hāna-Maui Resort

At the end of the Road to Hana, this is one of the most genuinely remote resort experiences in Hawaii — isolated, quiet, surrounded by agricultural land, with the small town of Hana as its only neighbor. Not a luxury hotel in the conventional sense, but an experience that's completely different from anything on the resort strip.

Big Island

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel — Kohala Coast

The original Kohala Coast resort, opened in 1965, with the best beach of any resort hotel in Hawaii — Kauna'oa Bay is consistently listed among the best beaches in the world. The hotel has a genuine history and a world-class art collection. The beach alone justifies the visit even if you're not staying.

Kauaʻi

Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa — Poʻipū

The best resort hotel on Kauai — a sprawling, low-rise property with an exceptional beach at Shipwreck Beach and the Poipu Beach area, a large pool system, and a consistent service standard. The South Shore location means reliable sunshine even when the rest of the island is cloudy.
