Dating safety tips
Most people are here for the same reasons you are. These habits help keep dating safe and comfortable.
Before you meet
- Chat in the app until you feel comfortable. You don't have to share your phone number, address, workplace or social accounts.
- A quick video call is a good way to check someone is who they say they are.
- Never send money, gift cards or crypto to someone you've met online, whatever the story. That's a common romance-scam sign (FTC guidance).
When you meet
- Meet in a public, busy place, like a café or a beach park in daylight.
- Tell a friend who you're meeting, where and when.
- Get yourself there and home, so you don't depend on your date for a ride.
- Keep an eye on your drink and your belongings. Leave whenever you want to; you don't owe anyone an explanation.
On Kamaʻāina Date
- Messaging only after a match: people can only message you once you've both sent an Aloha.
- Block, report and unmatch: on any profile or chat. Reports go to our team for review.
- We only show your island, never your exact location or distance. We remove location data from your photos when you upload them.
- We don't show when you were last online.
Spot catfish and romance scams
- Never send money, gift cards, crypto or a text verification code to someone you haven't met.
- Check a profile photo yourself with Google Lens or TinEye, and look for the Photo verified badge.
- Report scams to the FTC and FBI IC3. Read the full guide.
